Synopsis
‘Queens of the Levant’ is an emotive and inspirational documentary that follows four drag queens striving to change perceptions across four historically important and equally volatile cities in Lebanon, Palestine and Israel. As our protagonists prepare their houses for a performance of a lifetime at Madrid Pride. A ground-breaking take on identity, culture, politics, religion, socio-economics, and family; the four stories interlink as they play out in one of the most divided and politically charged regions on the planet.
A tale threaded together with the ambition to stage an epic Levante drag show, involving all four queens and their respective communities; the queens must first find a way to put their own differences aside for a greater purpose of inspiring unity and acceptance between their countries. With each nation and their people subjected to a long history of violence, hatred and mistrust; ‘Queens of the Levant’ is not just a story about fighting for acceptance as a drag queen in the middle east. It is also story about finding a way to accept each other. An emotionally charged journey, that is far from harmonious as it plays out. Though if they can put their past behind them and rise towards the greater good, the ‘Queens of the Levant’’ could achieve what no world leader has been able to do in the region; unite three divided countries, and bind Christian, Jewish and Muslim religions in one act of love and entertainment.
