Synopsis
‘The Art of War’ is an insightful and thought-provoking documentary following UK street artist, Ben Eine, as he travels to Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, and Syria. In each country, he meets local street artists and finds out more about their personal experiences and street art communities; all the while, unravelling the complexities associated with their nation’s past and present through their street art. From the political and socio-economic impact of civil war in Beirut, to the Arab Spring inspired uprisings and subsequent horrors in Damascus; the aftereffects of two Gulf Wars on the people and society in Baghdad, to the never-ending plight and uncertainty of the people in Gaza and the West Bank.
As Ben begins to understand what life and street art is like in the region, a different sort of idea begins to take shape. An idea to stage an exhibition showcasing the street artists, their work, and the messages behind them. An exhibition to take place in London. One that attracts help and interest from the great and the good of the art world; with the intent to educate, raise awareness, and celebrate the artists and their work that has been born from, and inspired by, conflict. An event to raise funds for each of their home countries, and the issues they face. An event that might just discover the next street art icon.
